Linocut Printmaking Workshop:
Composition, Carving, Colour and Print
Duration: 4 ½ hours | 10.00 – 14.30 (bring a lunch)
Level: intermediate (minimum age 14 years)
Where: Greystones, Sheffield
Payment: you are welcome to pay in two instalments of £30. Please use bank transfer at checkout for the first instalment and then I will contact you for the second payment.
A day spent exploring the very satisfying craft of linocut printmaking at home. You will use tools that you have in your kitchen to burnish and produce fantastic linocut prints.
Composition: you will learn about creating a balanced design and how to transfer it successfully onto your piece of lino.
Carving: you will be shown how to use the cutting tools safely and how the different tools work. You will be given a practice piece of lino so that you can explore the different mark making. You will carve your design.
Colour: you will explore colour combinations and how to mix and blend colours successfully. You will be shown how to prepare and roll out printmaking ink. Finally you will be shown how to apply the ink to the lino block ready to print.
Print: you will be shown the different ways that you can apply paper and burnish your print.
You can expect to take home a selection of original prints.
All materials are provided. I am more than happy for you to bring along your own art materials and art work as inspiration or to work from. I will have lots of art and design books for you to look through.
I offer an encouraging and supportive environment in my home kitchen studio where you will have the company of Minnie, our springer spaniel. You will have access to separate toilet facilities and an outside space to take some time out. Refreshments are provided and we will make time for lunch (please note lunch is not provided). Please note that I am unable to offer toilet facilities on ground level where the class is run.
